The Boss Baby 2 Release Date Delayed 6 Months To September 2021

The Boss Baby: Family Business, the much-anticipated sequel to the 2017 DreamWorks animated film The Boss Baby, has been delayed six months to September 2021. This delay is most likely due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the studio attempting an actual theater release for their film, unlike Warner Bros., who announced a 2021 streaming-and-theater release plan. The Boss Baby 2 will be directed by a returning Tim McGrath and will follow the once boss babies Tim and Ted who have now become estranged adults, hopefully being brought together at the prospect of a new family business and a new Boss Baby.

According to DreamWorks Animation, The Boss Baby: Family Business will now arrive on September 17, 2021. The film was originally supposed to be released March 2021 but has instead taken the release date for another of their animated films The Bad Guys, now pushing that film to a release in 2022.

It makes complete sense that Dreamworks, like most other production companies that thrive off of box office sales and a large theatrical release, would wait until moviegoers felt comfortable enough to return to theaters. But if the market still isn’t ready by September, DreamWorks’ next step might feel the need to push The Boss Baby: Family Business to 2022? A lot of companies have taken the hit and adapted to a dual release method, allowing for a streaming company and theaters to both have a crack their films. Hopefully, though, audiences will be safe enough to enjoy a family-friendly animated film around the end of the third quarter of 2021.
