With the next generation of gaming right around the corner, fans can start talkin' 'bout Bugsnax and rocking stylish Grumpus profile pics.
Bugsnax is a delightfully offbeat adventure title from independent developer Young Horses, known for its cult-classic title Octodad: Dadliest Catch. Players take the role of a journalist seeking to uncover the truth about Bugsnax and Snaktooth Island. However, the Grumpuses that inhabit Snaktooth Island will require the player's help to piece their lives back together and unify the settlement of Snaxburg. With 100 Bugsnax to collect, players will be busy Grumpuses as they explore the untamed wilderness of Snaktooth Island.
However, Players don't have to wait to become a Grumpus, as Young Horses has made its own Picrew that allows players to create their own Grumpus avatars. The secret Picrew was discovered before it was officially announced, but Young Horses posted a link to the Grumpus Picrew on its Twitter once it was found by players. With over 100 features to choose from across 10 categories, players can create their own unique Grumpus, or they can press the shuffle icon for a randomized Grump.
While most users won't realize this until after the game has released on Thursday, the majority of the items players can choose from to customize their Grumpus are direct references to characters players will encounter when playing through Bugsnax. While it's highly unlikely given the number of combinations, players could accidentally recreate some of Bugsnax's actual Grumpuses. Whether players want a simple Grumpus, or a wacky goofball Grumpus, the Picrew Grumpus generator is a great way to celebrate the game's release.
As a next-gen launch title, Bugsnax has some pretty big shoes to fill. It is also the successor of Octodad, which rightfully took the internet by storm due to its comical physics-based gameplay mechanics. Bugsnax is definitely an underdog, but it has certainly won over the hearts of the internet.
