Parks And Recreation: 10 Funniest Bobby Newport Quotes
Parks and Recreation followed a small group of parks department employees working in Southern Indiana in a town called Pawnee. The town is full of quirky characters who are just as hilarious as the main cast and one of those characters is Bobby Newport.
Bobby, portrayed by Paul Rudd, has a few-episode arc on the series as he competes against Leslie Knope for a city council seat. He began, and stayed, as an extremely lovable yet ignorant verging on idiotic character, which fit the Pawnee town quite well. Here are some of Bobby Newport's funniest lines throughout the series.
10 "Who wants a Bobby Bar? My dad made them."
In his first quote, Bobby is at a campaign meet and greet and offers Bobby Bars to everyone there. He says his dad, head of Sweetums candy company, made them. Sweetums is mentioned throughout the show and Bobby makes their presence in Pawnee even clearer.
It's hilarious that the company made an entire line of candy bars with Bobby's face on them and called them Bobby Bars after the heir to the Sweetums company.
9 "Do you want me to sign it to Ms. Lope or just Neslie?"
Leslie and Ben go to Bobby's campaign meet and greet and she introduces herself. Bobby firstly gets her name wrong, thinking it's Neslie Lope, and secondly is confused that she is running for city council because he was under the impression he was running unopposed.
Both Ben and Leslie are taken aback by Bobby's demeanor and personality and the fact that he still thinks that they're just fans of his campaign and that Leslie's name is Neslie Lope by the time they leave.
8 "Hi, my name is Bobby Newport. My dad is friends with John Cougar Mellancamp, that's pretty cool."
Bobby's campaign ads start running non-stop on television and one of them begins with this line. Bobby clearly thinks that the campaign is about getting people to like them and he's extremely oblivious to any of the issues that the Pawnee citizens care about.
Although it's an ignorant line that doesn't address anything about his campaign, it's hilarious and he's still charming saying this useless fact in a political ad.
7 "I don't know why they call it a cam-pain. Up until now, it's been a cam-pleasure."
During Bobby's first appearance he addresses the people at his meet and greet event and says this pun, even laughing at it himself.
At this point, and honestly, for most of the campaign, Bobby isn't very involved so it makes sense that he's not in pain over any of it when Leslie is passionate and already stressing about her campaign. It's still a funny line even if it does highlight how ignorant Bobby can be.
6 "I guess my thoughts on abortion are, you know, let's just all have a good time."
This line is delivered quickly during the debate episode between Bobby, Leslie, and others running for the city council seat.
Bobby's pretty ignorant about the issues including such a hotly debated issue, but he's also an incredibly sweet and kind person who just, as he states, wants everyone to have a good time.
5 "This is a restaurant, so they have food and stuff."
Bobby meets with Leslie and Ben at a restaurant after they release her first campaign ad online. He asks them if he wants anything because they're in a restaurant and they have food and stuff. It's a funny and random line as is, but it does also reference another running gag on the show.
Ron frequents a store called Food and Stuff in Pawnee that has exactly that, food and stuff. It might have been an unintentional reference, but either way, it's still a hilarious line.
4 "It would be so cool of you if you just quit."
Bobby asks Leslie to just quit because it would make his life so much easier and he can win the city council seat to impress his father. Obviously Leslie wouldn't go for this plan, but it's still funny to see Bobby plead with her.
He asks in such an exaggerated way, like an ignorant rich kid who probably hasn't had to deal with someone rejecting his pleading when she says no.
3 "Nice try. That's the guy from Toy Story."
April and Ben are trying to find an interim Mayor of Pawnee and start interviewing people for the job, including Bobby Newport. Due to his likability, they call him in, but unfortunately, he's about to travel to space and he can't commit.
April, always enjoying being sarcastic, introduces herself as Buzz Aldrin, but Bobby quips that her joke didn't work because he knows that's the toy from Toy Story.
2 "How about you quit running, then I win, but then I let you do all the work."
Bobby just wants to win the city council seat so his father will stop getting on him to do something with his life and he thinks the win will impress his dad.
After Leslie's campaign releases her online ad and it gets some attention, Bobby meets with her and Ben and sets out this hilarious plan that obviously no one would agree to, but it doesn't stop Bobby from asking and genuinely being excited about it.
1 "I'm against crime and I'm not ashamed to admit it."
Bobby Newport's run on Parks and Recreation clearly aimed to satirize politicians running for office and this line is part of that. It's a quick line from the debate between Leslie, Bobby, and others running for the city council seat.
It's an obvious statement as most people would be against crime, especially someone running for office, but that doesn't stop Bobby from saying it anyway.
